Yes, I am very proud to donate to the Monument that represents my service and our generation, and I am very proud of all of our younger veterans. Thankfully I don't hear much trash talk about veterans anymore. Of course I live in conservative area and community that supports our veterans and our country. (West Texas) I just hope my friends and family donate also, and that they donate again for the next ones. I know everyone gets tired of being asked for money, but it takes time, and money for things to happen, so if they want something, it costs. The veterans have already paid for the freedom of our country, and as was commented, the asking donation is only $3.00.

Every American living during the 10 year Vietnam era was touched by war. Through military service or opposition, through friends and/or family, each of us was subjected to the conflict. 3415 Texans paid the ultimate price. Over 572,000 current Texans served in the military during that era. All deserve the respect of ou...r State. Donate now. Build the monument. It's "Our Honor... Our Welcome Home." semper fi!

It took my dad 30 years to come to terms with what happened over there. He's been dealing with the after effects of Agent Orange and PTSD. Luckily, he's in therapy for the PTSD, but the Agent Orange has cripled him. Its hard to watch him trying to do what he loves best (working with his hands) - but he just can't do it anymore. He can do some, ... See Morebut he usually over does himself. I try... i try.... They say Korea was the "forgotten" war; Vietnam was the age of up-turned noses and scoffing. Even my dad's family scoffed him. He threw out his medals... Iraq is parallel to Vietnam, and the govt is not doing enough to rehabilitate the soldiers mentally.... my opinion anyway...

To me, it's too little, too late. But I have learned to forgive.

I am a Vietnam Veteran, and a participatiing life member of the VFW. I am thankful that Roy Grona sent this info out, as I was not aware. I am asking everyone of my friends in my facebook account to make a donation. They are only asking for a $3.00 donation, but more is appreciated. I sent more , and will probably s...till send more later. When this is done, we will need to help our brother and sister veterans of Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Afghanistan for their monuments, too.

man that is soooooooooo flippin awesume the video the song the commentary very very good! (reference to the music video "In The Shadow of the Blade")

Good tribute video. Although I did not serve on Hueys, the CH-46s that I served on in Vietnam still flew the same medevacs, troop insertions, troop withdrawals and resupply missions.

I am glad that today's returning military men and women do not have to face the "welcome" that we had in 1970. If we paved the way for a better recognition of their service, then I am glad.
Semper Fi!

I think Vietnam has been and continues to be a difficult time for vets and all of us who grew up with those of you who fought so gallantly.  I graduated next to Ronnie McBeth and frequently think of him.  I've rubbed his name at the wall in DC and also at the traveling exhibit here in Uvalde where I stood "guard" for eight hours one night.  I just cannot resist somehow and yet it never takes away the pain I feel about those years.  I cannot in any possible way know the anguish of you who served in Vietnam, but I imagine it must be hundreds of times worse than I've ever felt kneeling before that wall weeping for the loss of my childhood friends.  I do know that I honor and respect your service and have earnestly prayed for your comfort and peace all these years.  I never see a vet (usually I spy a tattoo, a bumper sticker or a hat that identifies the connection) that I don't walk up and thank him for his service...usually, he is overwhelmed and neither of us can speak many words without tears, but I have to make the effort because you all were treated so badly when you came home.  I'm so sorry...I wish I'd been older and wiser and known to organize a decent welcome...it was all mishandled terribly.  The lack of a proper "welcome home" for returning vets weighs heavily on those of us who went on with our lives at home - we had no idea what you had gone through and what you would face upon returning home.  Please forgive us.

I only know our six children have been immersed in the knowledge I've gained since.  They not only honor, respect and support our servicemen, they know they owe them recognition and gratitude…Our youngest child was 9 years old and we were Christmas shopping in San Antonio.  We peeked into an art gallery briefly and then headed to the food court when we realized she was not with us.  We ran back quickly and found her sitting on the floor in front of a huge picture.  I told her we need to go and she said, "But, Mama, I want this picture."  I took a closer look.  It was the picture of the man with his jacket off, leaning on the Vietnam Wall with the soldier's reflection...I asked her if she knew what it was?  She replied, "Yes, Mama, he's crying because his friend died in Vietnam."  "Becca, why would you want this picture?"  "Because we should never forget those who died to keep us free, like your friend."  Well, of course, she got that picture for Christmas and still has it today at 28 years old.

Thank you! Other than my immediate family you are only the second person to ever welcome me home. I came home in 1968 and it wasn't until 2002, 34 years, that a former Marine I was working with that welcomed me home. Welcome home to you too!
